How much money will I get for my dress?

The amount that your dress sells for is based on a few different factors.

  • Condition (is it flawless and like-new, or is it slightly worn in areas under the arms or bustline, etc.)
  • How old is the dress? Is the style fairly current?
  • What was the original PURCHASE price of the dress (if your dress originally retailed for $2,000 but you bought it at a blowout sale at Filene's for $500 we must base our price on the lower sale price)

Once we consider all of those factors we can begin to put a price tag on your dress. It will typically be 40-60% of the original retail value (or purchase price). Once your dress is sold Pour Toujours will deduct a commission rate of 50% from your dress and mail you a check for the rest.

How long will it take for my dress to sell?

There is no telling EXACTLY how long a dress will take to sell. Depending upon the season, style, color, and price of a dress it could take a couple of weeks or a couple of months. The contract you sign states that Pour Toujours will keep your dress for 180 day (aprox. 6 months). If your dress does not sell in that period of time and you wish to take it back you may then do so with no obligation. However, if you decide to sell your dress during that 180 day period via another method (craigslist, eBay, etc.) Pour Toujours reserves the right to charge you for the time you dress was under contract.

Why am I being charged to sell my dress when I could sell it on eBay or craigslist?

Pour Toujours is not charging you a fee simply for selling your dress. We do our best to advertise and provide a reputable retail space where more traffic can be drawn to your dress and essentially more buyers. Sometimes buyers are much more comfortable buying a dress when they can see it, try it on, and know that it has been inspected for quality.

Why should I buy a "USED" gown?

The term "used" sounds so harsh and more commonly seems to describe things that have been abused. We want you to know that our gown collection has been carefully inspected for flaws and quality before it ever gets accepted into our store. Most of them have been worn for a matter of hours and have been carefully dry-cleaned and preserved. Some gowns have never been worn at all. As you know when you buy a prom dress or wedding gown you are committed to your dress the moment you buy it, even if you find something you like better before the big event.
